How to get a bank statement PDF into Google Sheets
Google Sheets imports CSV files with File › Import. To get a bank statement PDF into Google Sheets, convert the PDF to CSV first, then import the CSV. Quietools does the conversion inside your browser, so the PDF is not uploaded; once you import the CSV, its rows are stored in your Google account like any other spreadsheet.
Short answer
- Convert the statement PDF to CSV.
- In Google Sheets, choose File › Import and pick the CSV.
- Check the dates and amounts against the PDF.
Step 1: Convert the PDF to CSV
- Open Bank Statement PDF to CSV and drop the statement PDF. It must be text-based: if you can highlight a word in the PDF, it will work. Scans and photos won't.
- Check the rows. Click any cell to fix it, rename a heading by clicking it, or remove a column you don't want in the sheet with the ✕ in its heading.
- If you want one Amount column to add up, click Combine into one Amount column. Money out becomes negative and money in stays positive. The button appears when the statement has separate money-out and money-in columns.
- Download the CSV. The free version exports the first 15 rows; the full version ($19 once) exports every row.
Step 2: File › Import in Google Sheets
From Google's help article on importing (checked 2026-11-08):
- Open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
- Choose File › Import and select the CSV file.
- Choose an import location (see the table below).
- For the separator type, leave Detect automatically or choose Comma.
- Click Import.
Google notes that not every import location is offered for every file type. The dialog may show other options depending on the version; follow what you see on screen.
| Import location | Useful when |
|---|---|
| Create new spreadsheet | You want the statement in its own file |
| Insert new sheets | You keep one tab per month in the same file |
| Replace spreadsheet | You want the whole file replaced by this CSV |
| Replace current sheet | You are redoing an import on the same tab |
| Append rows to current sheet | You add next month under last month (delete the repeated heading row) |
| Replace data starting at selected cell | You paste the rows into a set place in an existing layout |
Check dates and amounts after import
Quietools does not reformat dates: a statement that prints 01/05/2026 gives 01/05/2026 in the CSV. Google says changing a spreadsheet's locale changes its default currency, date and number formats (Google help); the locale is in File › Settings. We have not confirmed how each locale reads a date like 01/05/2026, so compare a few rows with the PDF, especially dates where the day is 12 or lower.
Amounts use a dot as the decimal separator with no thousands separators or currency symbols. If you combined the money columns, a formula such as =SUM(C2:C) gives the net change for the period. If you kept separate columns, withdrawals are positive numbers in their own column.
Size is rarely a problem for a statement: Google's Drive limits page gives up to 20 million cells and 100 MB for a spreadsheet created in or converted to Sheets.
Why the privacy of the CSV matters after import
Quietools' promise covers the conversion: the PDF is read in your browser and 0 bytes of it are sent to a server. Importing the CSV into Google Sheets is a separate step. After it, the rows live in your Google account and follow your Google settings and the spreadsheet's sharing settings.
- Remove columns you don't need in the sheet, such as Balance, before you download the CSV.
- Edit or shorten descriptions that contain reference or card numbers you don't want to keep.
- Check who the spreadsheet is shared with before adding a statement to it.

Questions
Which file types can Google Sheets import?
Google lists .xls (newer than Office 95), .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlt, .xltx, .xltm, .ods, .csv, .txt, .tsv and .tab files without password protection.
Why do some dates look wrong after import?
Quietools keeps dates as printed on the statement, and Google says a spreadsheet's locale sets its default date and number formats. Check a few dates against the PDF, especially days 1 to 12, and change the locale in File > Settings if needed.
Can I add several months to one sheet?
Yes. Import each month with Append rows to current sheet and delete the repeated heading row, or use the full version of Quietools to combine several statements into one CSV first.
Does it work with a scanned statement?
No. Quietools reads text-based PDFs only. Download the statement again from your online banking, where PDFs usually contain text.
How many rows are free?
The free version exports the first 15 rows and shows every row in the preview. The full version costs $19 once and exports every row.
